You get a great view of the city on the way up, and more importantly, you arrive at the tower looking like a normal human being instead of a sweaty mess. You can catch the cable car from Myeongdong station (Exit 3) after a short walk.
Is the Observatory Deck Worth It?
This is where I’ll be controversial: You don’t need to pay to go up to the actual observatory. The plaza at the base of the tower is already at the peak of the mountain. You get sweeping, panoramic views of the entire sprawling city for absolutely free. I paid the extra 20,000 KRW to go up the elevator to the official viewing deck, and honestly? The view was exactly the same, just behind dirty glass with a bunch of reflections ruining my photos. Save your money.

The best time to go is exactly one hour before sunset. You get to see the city in daylight, catch the golden hour over the Han River, and then watch the entire metropolis light up in neon at night.
